What New Hampshire requires

- The statute names no method for the return; mail the list and refund to the tenant's new address.

- Twice the deposit plus interest due, less payments and charges owing, unless the tenant never gave a new address.
- Documentation
- Satisfactory evidence that each repair has been or will be done: receipts for materials, labor estimates, bills or invoices.
- Deposit account
- The deposit is held in trust, never mingled with the landlord's own money, at a New Hampshire bank or under a bond.
- Interest
- Owed on deposits held a year or longer, at the regular savings rate of the bank holding it.

- Single-family homes rented by someone who owns no other rental, and owner-occupied buildings of five or fewer units, are outside the statute unless the tenant is 60 or older.

What goes on the statement
The deposit and the date it was received, each deduction with a specific description and amount, the total withheld, and the refund or balance owed. New Hampshire landlords also record how and when the statement was sent, because the deadline is measured to that date. Damage lines should say what was damaged and how, not just a room name: a tenant, and a judge, can tell a burn mark from carpet wear.
Interest, a separate deposit account, receipts, photographs and a sworn attestation are only required in some states. The generator shows the fields New Hampshire needs and leaves out the ones it does not.
