Why invoice structure matters for freelancers
A freelancer invoice has to explain the work without reopening the whole project conversation. The client should be able to match the invoice to the deliverables, contract, or retainer agreement and approve payment without asking what a line item means.
Clear invoice numbers, dates, payment terms, and work descriptions also protect your time. If a client needs internal approval, the invoice should give their finance contact enough context to process it without sending you back into the inbox.
