Copywriter Invoice Template

Per-Word, Per-Piece, or on Retainer

Whether you bill by the word, by the piece, or on a monthly retainer, your invoice has to make the math obvious, and pin down the revision count before the client asks for round seven. Issueable handles all four billing models and a clean revision-round line so scope stays contained.

What Copywriters Invoice For

Blog & Content Writers

Per-piece or per-word billing with explicit word count and SEO target. Monthly retainers for content programs.

Email & Direct Response

Sequence-based billing: full nurture sequences, sales letters, launch emails. Per-asset or per-funnel pricing on one invoice.

Sales Page & Landing Page Copy

Per-page rates with research, draft, and revision rounds itemized. Often the highest-ticket copywriting work.

What Copywriting Bills Need

Flexible Billing Models

Mix per-word and per-piece rates on the same invoice. Add hourly research lines or retainer carry-forwards as needed.

Revision Round Caps

Name the included rounds in each line item; bill overages at your stated rate. Scope creep stops at the invoice line.

SEO Package Lines

Itemize content packages: '4 blog posts (1,500 words each), 2 rounds of revisions, 1 keyword cluster.' Concrete deliverables justify the price.

Rush-Fee Line Items

Add a rush-turnaround surcharge as a named line item. Clients who need copy in 24-48 hours expect it; billing it explicitly prevents the negotiation later.

Copywriter Invoicing FAQ

The line items that protect copywriters

Three copywriting-specific traps hide in vague invoices: undefined word counts, unbounded revisions, and ambiguous SEO-package scope. Each one quietly costs experienced writers thousands of dollars a year because the disagreement happens on the final invoice instead of the original quote.

Defending the price means itemizing what was delivered. "Blog post, 1,500 words, 2 rounds of revisions" is much stronger than "blog content." A specific description survives an AP review or a client question; a generic one invites pushback.
